Grant Leier’s work aims to realize the dream that Matisse wrote about in 1908, specifically an art “…devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter. An art that might be for every menial worker, like a mental soother, something like a good armchair in which to rest from physical fatigue”. Leier works in bold, bright acrylics with festive and decorative impressionism to still life. He often frames his paintings with patterns of ornamental designs, asserting a flamboyant resistance to the conventional. Grant Leier’s work has a jazzy, happy, uplifting feel whilst based on simple themes and childlike transitions. After years of extensive study in Canada, the artist honed his skills further at the Illustrator’s Workshop in New York. This dynamic Canadian artist is admired for imparting his passion and positive energy on every canvas. Grant has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout North America, as well as showing several textile and assemblages in important group exhibitions organized by public museums. His work is represented in over twenty corporate and public collections.
